Callum Johnson: Sergey Kovalev is weakest champion

Callum Johnson states WBO title-holder Sergey Kovalev – who combats Saul’Canelo’ Alvarez month – is the weakest of the four world champions.
Johnson, who knocked out Sean Monaghan at March, was unable to fight WBA champion Dmitry Bivol this fall because of a shoulder injury.
Nevertheless, the 34-year-old is currently eyeing a shot at a world title battle next year.
Johnson explained:”I believe Kovalev is the weakest out of the four, to tell the truth, he’s the weakest of the winners. Bivol is probably next.
“Not concerning skill – I think Bivol is perhaps the very best in terms of boxing skill. But I really don’t think he is the most powerful and most powerful. He could probably make super middleweight too.
“He has really great footwork, and he does everything very well and , to the eye to get a boxing purist he’s fantastic and that he really is quite good but I do not think he has the crushing power that everyone thought he had at one stage.
“I really don’t think he’s got that many gears, so I believe he is what he is. He’s a top-level boxer but I believe he can be angry and he can be roughed up and I do think I have the resources and the power and the capability to do that.”
Kovalev comes up from Canelo in Las Vegas on November 2, also Johnson anticipates that the Mexican to come out on top.
“I think Canelo [wins]. I think Kovalev has seen.
“Do not get me wrong, it’s a difficult challenge for Canelo because he is leaping up two weights and Kovalev remains very, very great.
“However, I think if anybody can beat himnow the time is right to beat him and we understand how good Canelo is indeed it is a struggle I’m excited about watching.”
As two of the four belt-holders of the division go beterbiev requires on WBC champ Oleksandr Gvozdyk at Philadelphia on Friday.
Johnson is financing his own conqueror Beterbiev to conquer the Ukrainian, who rates as superior than Kovalev and Bivol.
He said:”The struggle tonight is your top two, I believe we’ll find out who’s the best tonight.
“I think Beterbiev wins. I hope he wins! [This ] might be a bit of prejudice but I think I’d be picking him to win because he is a fighter, if I had never boxed with Beterbiev and I just see him becoming too strong.
“He is also a very good boxer, he’s got the amateur experience, the amateur pedigree, just like Gvozdyk, [however ] I only hope Beterbiev to triumph.
“It might be a close battle. It’s a real 50/50. But I believe Beterbiev will come out on top.”
Having missed the opportunity to fight Bivol due to trauma, Johnson admits before setting his sights on a few of the reigning world champions he might need to test his fitness using a struggle next year.
“We’ll see what happens,” he explained. “I think I’m likely to have another battle before I get offered once, but I would jump right into one, since I’m a fighter and I want to fight for a world title . Realistically I’m likely to get triumph that before I get my luck again and to really have a meaningful fight.
“I’ll fight whoever next year, people, whenever, wherever.
“Whatever makes sense, whatever is going to be great for my career, I’m pleased to do.”
